Robert Joseph "Bob" Dole (born July 22, 1923) is best known as a former Republican United States Senate Majority Leader and Senator from Kansas from 1969 to 1996. He was the Republican presidential nominee in 1996, but was defeated by incumbent Bill Clinton in the election.
